A SECOND man has been arrested in connection with the death of a man in a park in Strathaven.

The 27-year-old is in police custody following the death of Jason McCue in the Lanarkshire town's John Hastie Park.

The 43-year-old, from East Kilbride, was allegedly attacked at the park at lunchtime on Tuesday, July 11.

He was treated by paramedics for his injuries but he died at the scene.

Cops launched an investigation immediately after and confirmed today that they had made a second arrest in connection with the death.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "A 27-year-old man has been arrested and is presently detained in police custody in connection with the death.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

We previously reported that a 50-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the death and he was due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

The victim's family released a statement following the death saying Jason would be "greatly missed".

The family said: "Jason was a much loved son, brother, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed. The family have asked for privacy at this time to come to terms with their loss."

The 27-year-old man is expected to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court today.
