A DAD who was found with up to £3,000 worth of cocaine in his house has been spared jail.

Gary McLevy's home was searched by police in November 2016 where they uncovered the drugs, along with more than £1000 in bank notes.

Officers also found a set of digital scales, polythene bags, parcel tape, a mobile phone and bank card in McLevy's name during the search of his Scotstoun flat.

The 36-year-old former TV satellite engineer appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court for sentencing on Thursday, where his solicitor said the drugs were intended to be divided between the 36-year-old and his friends.

According to the procurator fiscal, the 96g of cocaine seized could be worth between £800 and £3000 depending on their purity, however the court heard the drugs were on "the lower end of the scale".

McLevy's solicitor said: "The plea was tendered on the basis that the supply of the drugs was to be between friends.

"Each contributed £350 for the acquisition of the drugs - the saving would be £150 each.

"For what its worth he engaged in this activity after using cocaine on a personal basis."

Sentencing, Sheriff Brian Cameron said McLevy could easily have been given a custodial sentence, but said on this occasion he would "step back" from handing out jail time.

He ordered him to do 140 hours of unpaid work within six months.
