THIEVES on the prowl have nicked everything from cop gear to traffic cones from the ‘boys in blue’ in Glasgow, it has been revealed.

The Evening Times has exclusively obtained a list of items through the Freedom of Information Act which Police Scotland staff in the Glasgow division have reported as stolen.

Staff working for the force’s G Division have reported just over 50 thefts in the last five years.

But the list of bizarre items snatched by city thieves was mainly Police Scotland issued uniforms or kit needed for officers to carry out their role.

Police hats were popular with thieves with several nicked during the period between 2003 and this year.

Brazen thieves also raided cop cars with a number plate snatched in one instance and an aerial swiped in another.

Airwave radios, used by cops to communicate, were also reported stolen.

Other items included in the stolen haul were police traffic cones, a shield, a baton and a flag.

The force’s Mounted Unit, who are based at a farm in Stewarton but are dispersed across the city for big events including football matches, may have been at a loss without a harness which too was nicked.

Paperwork was not overlooked either with Police Scotland ASBO fixed penalty tickets and Vehicle Defect Rectification Scheme (VDRS) book lapped up by criminals.

Although city cops have been cracking down on cycle thieves as previously reported in the Evening Times, they themselves did not escape the criminals with two bikes nicked.

Police Scotland said the cost of the items stolen was not recorded.

The force, however, did reveal that some of the items taken were snatched through housebreaking or through breaking into a motor vehicle.

The Greater Glasgow G Division, headed up by Chief Superintendent Brian McNulty, is one of Police Scotland’s biggest with more than 2,700 officers on the beat.
