LINN Park stables were given a special mucking out as a legion of volunteers pitched in to help.

Employees from whisky firm Edrington forfeited a grand opening for their new offices in favour of donating volunteer time.

They chose Linn Park Equestrian Centre on Glasgow’s South Side, which is run by charitable social enterprise The New Ark Support and Activity Centre.

Ian Curle, Chief Executive of Edrington, said: “We loved the idea of celebrating moving into a new HQ in Glasgow by giving something back to a well-deserved community facility in the city.

“Our team was really pleased to spend a day in glorious sunshine helping to make improvements at the Linn Park Equestrian Centre.

"And we’re looking forward to hearing the feedback on the changes from the service users that use this brilliant facility.”

Around 70 employees from the firm, which makes The Macallan and The Famous Grouse, spent yesterday painting stables and digging new flowerbeds.

The mass volunteering event was organised to mark the opening of Edrington’s new HQ at 100 Queen Street.

The whisky makers decided that rather than doing the traditional ribbon cutting ceremony for the new office it would team up with Volunteer Glasgow to give employees the chance to give something back to the community.

Lynn Crighton, chairwoman and founder of The New Ark Support & Activity Centre, said: “We were just so happy when we heard that the Edrington team had chosen to volunteer with us.

“I’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone that turned out yesterday and the previous weeks and took up paint brushes, spades and rakes to give the centre a makeover."

As well as providing riding classes for people with disabilities, the centre works hard to be socially inclusive providing lessons to local people from all backgrounds and walks of life at an affordable rate.
