Sick of overcooked veggies in plastic containers, or always end up relying on just a gin and tonic and a handful of peanuts to get you through a long flight? Well, Gordon Ramsay’s got a much more extravagant way to stay fed in mid-air.

The shouty chef’s Heathrow Terminal 5 restaurant, Plane Food, re-launches later this summer, so we thought we’d assess one of his new-look in-flight picnic meals before heading off on hols this summer…

Gordon Ramsay’s Plane Food (Ella Walker/PA)(Ella Walker/PA)

Our verdict: Lunch comes in a wide, sleek cooler bag with a handle, so your meal doesn’t slide about – in theory, anyway. There’s been a bit of a soya sauce incident with mine – golden droplets spatter the shiny inside of the bag. Napkins at the ready. It comes with sturdy plastic cutlery (wash and keep ’em), however, the amount of plastic tubs involved isn’t ideal. Cardboard would be just as sturdy and far more sustainable. 6/10

Starter: Sushi tray, wasabi, soya, ginger, daikon

Sushi Tray (Ella Walker/PA)(Ella Walker/PA)

Our verdict: These morsels ended up in a bit of a jumble, but a tasty jumble nonetheless. The rice is firm, the daikon fresh and zingy, and the wasabi provides enough heat to clear your airways before the plane takes off. 7/10

Main: Grilled Teriyaki salmon, new potatoes, sauce gribiche, rocket cress

Salmon with potatoes (Ella Walker/PA)(Ella Walker/PA)

Our verdict: You will not go hungry – the slab of salmon is huge, moist and pretty perfectly cooked (although not hot, but that’s forgivable). The teriyaki hit is sweet and sticky, without being sickly, and the potatoes are just tender (although where is the butter?!), however the rocket has gone a bit limp, and the grebiche is surplus to requirement. 8/10

Dessert: Chocolate tart and raspberries

Chocolate tart with raspberries (Ella Walker/PA)(Ella Walker/PA)

Our verdict: My lonely two raspberries got a bit squished in transit, but the tart itself is impressive. Thick, rich, moreish chocolate filling, packed into a pastry case that has kept its shape and crispness – a few more berries and a bowl of extra thick cream and this would be amazing. 8/10
