COPS rushed to a hospital today after receiving reports that a foetus was left outside.
The alarm was raised at around 6.50am at Wishaw General Hospital in North Lanarkshire.
Officers, however, established that the object was in fact not a foetus when they arrived at the scene.
Police Scotland said they will continue their investigations into the incident and anyone with information is urged to contact Wishaw cops on 101.
NHS Lanarkshire said that there is no disruption to hospital services.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "It was around 6.50am on Thursday, July 20, police received a report of what appeared to be a foetus outside on the grounds of Wishaw General Hospital.
"Police immediately attended and following enquiries it was established that this was not the case.
"Detectives will continue enquiries to establish the full circumstances and anyone with information is asked to contact police in Wishaw on 101."
