A DRUNK driver crashed into two cars and a lamppost before finally getting out of his vehicle.

Donald Anderson, was seen driving his Audi vehicle down Carrbridge Drive in Maryhill before smashing into a parked Hyundai on February 18.

The 50-year-old then reversed and drove into the same car again.

He continued to drive towards the junction on Glenfinnan Road where he failed to make the turn and collided with another car.

Once again, Anderson, of Carrbridge Drive, attempted to reverse before crashing into the same car for a second time.

He then turned to the carriageway, travelled south and drove into a lamppost, causing parts of the lamppost to fall onto his car.

When he finally got out from behind the wheel, Anderson appeared to be intoxicated.

Police eventually caught up with him around 6pm that evening.

When they appeared at his front door, Anderson admitted “It’s me you are looking for”.

By the time he was conveyed to the police office, a reading of his breath revealed that he had 43 micrograms of alcohol in every 100 millilitres of breath.

Anderson appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to driving dangerously by failing to keep the car under control, repeatedly colliding with stationary cars, mounting a pavement and lamppost, all while under the influence of alcohol.

His defence agent told the court that his client had demonstrated a ‘disgraceful piece of driving’ and that there was no excuse for getting behind the wheel while drunk.

On the day of the incident, the Maryhill-man had been drinking with his friend and had gotten in his car to go and buy more alcohol.

His solicitor commented that his bad driving wasn’t simply down to his alcohol consumption but was more just “very bad driving”.

Sheriff McConnell ordered the accused to undergo 140 hours of unpaid work in a period of six months as a direct alternative to custody.

He will also be disqualified for three years and will have to sit and pass the extended test before driving again.
