THE family of an eight-year-old girl who died after being trapped under logs told how her smile "would light up a room."

Kayla MacDonald, from Dunbeg, was pronounced dead at the scene in a forest in Benderloch on Sunday afternoon.

A 12-year-old girl is currently being treated in the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow after being transferred from Oban hospital.

She is said to be stable.

A statement from Kayla's family was issued through Police Scotland last night.

It said: "Kayla was a precious fun loving 8 year old who was loved by everyone around her. Kayla's smile would light up a room. She attended Rockfield's Gaelic Medium where she was fluent in Gaelic.

"Our wee girl loved music and dance as well as doing hair, nails and make up. Kayla has two younger brother who along with the rest of her family and friends will miss her dearly."

A joint investigation between Police Scotland and the Health and Safety Executive is to take place to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death.

A force spokesman said it was not being treated as suspicious.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
