MASTERCHEF: The Professionals winner Gary Maclean showed off his skills to foodies at his first Summer Masterclass.

Before an audience of 80 in City of Glasgow College’s main Lecture Theatre, Gary demonstrated the skills and expertise that won him the show.

Gary, a senior chef lecturer at the college, said: “Hosting this event was great fun and a great honour, and it was exciting to use the fantastic demonstration kitchen in our lecture theatre.

"The dishes I chose to cook are ones which people can easily do at home, with ingredients that are readily available.

“We encouraged the audience to take part and I’m really pleased that people got involved and enjoyed themselves.

"The event gave everyone an insight into how a professional chef works under pressure and hopefully they picked up a few useful tips.

“After tonight’s success, and judging by the numbers who attended and their enthusiasm, I would hope to host similar events in the future.”

Guests watched as Gary prepared and cooked a range of dishes from fresh homemade pasta to Chicken Pasanda to Apple Tart Tatin, explaining each process as he worked.

Afterwards they got the chance to try the recipes themselves as well the opportunity to chat with the college’s Master Chef and have photographs taken.

Norma Walker’s daughter is a student of Gary’s at the college so she jumped at the chance of watching him cook and meeting him.

She said: “It was a very informative evening and I loved hearing Gary’s stories and learning from him. I’d recommend the event to anyone, even people who aren’t into cooking.

"It was great to see a MasterChef winner cooking live instead of on the TV. He is very passionate about the college, especially his students; three helped him at the event.

"My daughter’s confidence has grown since being at the college and she’s been given incredible opportunities.”

The ticket-only event was held in the college’s stunning City campus which recently secured a place in the final shortlist for this year’s RIBA Stirling Prize.

Gary has several other events coming up in the next few months, including An Evening With Gary Maclean on Friday, August 25.
