The unprovoked attacked happened at around 3.20am on Sunday in the Trongate area of town.

The three men who are believed to be Romanian then made off and the man contacted police.

He sustained a swollen eye but did not seek any further medical help.

Detective Constable Vhairi MacDonald, from the city centre police station at Stewart Street, said: “This was a totally unprovoked attack on a man who was just trying to make his way home after a night out in the town.

“The Trongate area would have been busy at this time in the morning, with various clubs in the area having just closed and many people making their way home.

"I’d like to speak to any of these people who may have witnessed this robbery or perhaps saw the three men hanging around the area.”
