The distraught mother of brutally murdered soldier Lee Rigby has broken down and labelled Celtic fans “scum” after video footage emerged of supporters mocking his death with a sick chant.

Lyn Rigby has described how she has not “stopped crying” since a clip surfaced online showing Hoops fans in Sunderland at the weekend walking along a street while chanting “f**k Lee Rigby, he won’t be f***ing drumming anymore” ahead of the friendly Dafabet Cup clash.

The 50-year-old called on Celtic Football Club to “denounce these scum wearing their team’s shirt” and to crack down on supporters who behave in such a way.

Speaking to The Scottish Sun, Lyn said: “I don’t understand how people can be so vicious about something so tragic.

“I hope the hooligans in this video search their souls and conscience and realise it’s real people they are harming.

“I doubt they have had a son or loved one hacked to death in the street. They would not be sneering and mocking.”

Lee, 25, of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, was horrifically slain in May 2013 in front of members of the public by Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale in Woolwich, southeast London.

The pair told people at the scene they killed the soldier as an act of revenge over the killing of Muslims by the British armed forces.

They were sentenced to life behind bars at the end of that year.
