A NEW chip shop in Largs has scooped two national awards just 12 weeks after it opened.

The Fish Works, on the seaside town’s famous promenade, was named Best Newcomer and Best Fish and Chip Takeaway in the Dine In – Scotland’s Takeaway Awards scheme.

Finalists are selected through public nominations and votes in a range of categories, which are then judged independently by hospitality experts.

The Fish Works was founded in April by Ross Irvin, whose family ran an ice cream kiosk in the town for 54 years, and his wife Tiffany.

Tiffany said: “We have both worked in the food industry for 40 years and being Largs locals and working on the promenade daily, we dreamt of creating a place where visitors and locals could come to enjoy fresh quality Scottish seafood in a relaxed environment with the best views of the Firth of Clyde.”

The couple’s vision for their new business is an environmentally-friendly one – the interiors include recycled pallets, penny coin-floors, LED lights and peel tech, which uses 80 per cent less water when peeling potatoes.

Tiffany added: “We were hugely pleased to have been nominated by our customers and to get voted into the finals in two categories. It was beyond our hopes that we won the Best Newcomer so when we also won the best Fish and Chip Takeaway category we couldn’t believe it, particularly considering the level of competition.”
