It's the news all Strictly fans have been waiting for.

The first famous contestant to take part in the 2017 series of the dance show will be revealed on Grimmy's Radio One breakfast show on Monday.

BBC insider Chris McCluskey, who works on PR for the show, tweeted earlier today: "Ooh first @bbcstrictly contestant for 2017 will be confirmed on @BBCR1 on Monday morn with Grimmy exciting!!!"

Last year, Ed Balls was the first contestant confirmed. The professional dancers posted pictures of themselves in the rehearsal room earlier this week.

The photographs included returning superstars Anton du Beke, Brendan Cole and husband and wife team Karen and Kevin Clifton.

New dancers Dianne Buswell, Amy Dowden and Nadiya Bychkova were also in the dazzling line-up. Last year's winner Joanne Clifton, who picked up the glitterball with TV presenter Ore Oduba, has quit the show to pursue a musical theatre career.

Rumours are rife about who might be appearing this year with EastEnders star Rita Simons, whose character Roxy Mitchell was recently killed off, and singer Alexandra Burke, both in the frame.

Athlete Paula Radcliffe, astronaut Tim Peake and Olympic rower Helen Glover have also been suggested as possible contestants, though nothing has been confirmed.

The show kicks off in the autumn.
