Tributes have been paid to a new dad who died in a quad bike crash on the M8 motorway.

Police said a 24 year-old man was driving a green SMC quad bike on the M8 near to the slip road for Paisley and appeared to lose control before crashing into a lamp post on the slip road.

The accident happened on Saturday around 3.45pm.

The man has been named on social media by friends as Greig Hogg.

Mr Hogg, believed to be from Stirling, and his fiancée, Charlene, had a baby son, Cameron, earlier this year.

Police and said emergency services attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene and have made an appeal for any witnesses to get in touch.

Tributes from friends to Mr Hogg have appeared on social media offering condolences to his family.

Jamie Buonaccorsi, said: “Can’t believe what I’ve heard today. Another gent of a guy taken far too soon. You always knew how to make people smile mate.”

Rebecca Walker, said: “Had lots of good times over the years. Can’t believe you’re gone. Thoughts are with your family and Charlene. You will be missed.”

Sergeant Mark Miller from the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Greenock, said: “I would appeal to anyone who was on the M8 near to Junction 29 around the time of the crash, who may have witnessed what happened, to get in touch.

“I am also appealing for any motorists who could potentially have dashcam footage of the incident, or of the quad bike driving on the motorway beforehand, to please come forward.”

Police Scotland added “Anyone with information is asked to contact the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Greenock via 101 and quote incident number 2662 of Saturday 12th August 2017.”
