An Asian restaurant that has been popular with Glasgow foodies for over four decades has made the shock announcement it is to close its doors.

Amber Restaurant in Byres Road took to its social media page at the weekend with the news.

In a short statement to customers, staff at the Chinese eatery said: “After more than 40 years of serving you, we regret to inform you that the Amber Restaurant is closing permanently.

Glasgow Times:

“We will stop business after the 15th of August.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.

“It has been both a pleasure and privilege to be a part of Byres Road for so long.

Glasgow Times:

“A massive thank you to all our staff and customers.”

“Such sad news. Many happy memories and delicious food. One of my favourite restaurants ever,” said one customer online as another added, “The Amber has been a huge part of my life. I have eaten there all of my life - birthdays, any day really, any excuse to go.

“My family have eaten there for as long as I remember. Love the Amber, prefer it before the refit, but the food has always been fantastic.

“Seeing this news today feels like a death in the family, so sad.”

Another shocked customer lamented: “A Byres Road institution sadly lost.”
