CRAIG GORDON: First significant involvement was to head away an Astana counter attack before he was called into making a sharp save minutes later. Didn’t have many more stops to make but performed diligently for his clean sheet. 6

MIKAEL LUSTIG: Brilliantly angled first-time pass sent Tom Rogic running free for the opening goal. Daft back heel had earlier given away possession but Astana couldn’t capitalise. 6

JOZO SIMUNOVIC: Mistake let in Serikhzan Muzhikov only for Gordon to spare his team-mate’s blushes with a decent stop. Otherwise solid. 7

NIR BITTON: Preferred against in central defence ahead of the more conventional option of Kristoffer Ajer and, a few nervy moments aside, looked comfortable enough. 6

KIERAN TIERNEY: Stationed very high up the pitch almost like a wing-back and always eager to run at the Astana defence. Booked early in the second period. 7

SCOTT BROWN: Does what Scott Brown does best; got stuck in and kept play ticking over with a series of (mostly) short passes. Booked midway through the first half. 6

OLIVIER NTCHAM: Occasionally erroneous with his passing but for the most part a dynamic presence at the heart of the Celtic team, with many moves flowing through him at some point. 7

JAMES FORREST: Looked in the mood early on to the point that Astana were soon doubling up on him. Knocked in Celtic’s fourth after great play from Griffiths. 7

TOM ROGIC: Creator of Celtic’s first goal with a terrific driving run reminiscent of his winner in the Scottish Cup final, with defender Evgeni Postnikov credited with the final touch. Departed midway through the second half a touch woozy after a clash of heads. 7

SCOTT SINCLAIR: Started quietly but finished well for Celtic’s second goal of the night and again for the third. Had passed up the first chance of the game, a dribbler that went just wide. That mattered little by the end. 8

LEIGH GRIFFITHS: A persistent threat at the apex of the Celtic formation who finally got his reward when he belted in Celtic’s fifth goal late on. Headed a great early opportunity wide of target and then thought he had scored only to be flagged offside. Also made a terrific pass to Sinclair for his second goal and again for Forrest for Celtic’s fourth. 9

Subs:

Callum McGregor (for Rogic 63): Typically vibrant as the number 10 role. 5

Stuart Armstrong (for Forrest 82): Late cameo n/a
