Ex-Celtic ace Chris Sutton gave one Rangers troll a taste of his own medicine online by responding to his cheeky comment with one of his own - and bringing up that Progrès result.

After the Hoops firmly planted one foot into the Champions League group stages with a 5-0 thrashing of Astana at Parkhead last night, Sutton told the fan Leigh Griffiths “would have scored six against Progres.”

Speaking on BT Sport, Sutton said: “You have to remember this is a Celtic side who don’t have the finance which clubs do down south. They punch above their weight.

“But they’ve got players like Griffiths who, for me, would tear it up in the English Premier League.”

However - in a tweet to Sutton now deleted - one Rangers fan said: “It was f*****g Astana not arsenal u muppet we will see how good they are in the group stage when they get pumped !”

Glasgow Times:

Sutton hit back: “He would have scored six against Progres,” followed by a winky-face emoji.

The commentator was making reference to Rangers crashing out of the Europa League on July 4 after suffering a 2-0 loss to Progrès Niederkorn.

Griffiths hit out at the Kazakh team’s manager after the game by saying they were “all full of talk about how they were destined for the Champions League.”

He added: “You need to remember we put them out last season.

“They need to start doing their talking on the pitch.

“We don’t shout from the rooftops. We don’t get above our station. We do our talking on the pitch - as you saw tonight.”
