Sky Sports’ chief football commentator, Martin Tyler, labelled Rangers “a new club” while commentating for US audiences during Celtic’s 5-0 thumping of Astana in the first leg of their play-off at Parkhead.

During the second-half, 71-year-old Tyler made reference to “the demise of the old Rangers.”

In full, he said during the Fox Sport broadcast: “The history of Scottish football as you know it.

“The demise of the old Rangers and the demotion to start again as a new club and finally got themselves back to make the Old Firm games, which were badly missed.”
