BUS operator First Glasgow has unveiled new look express services providing East Dunbartonshire residents with fast motorway links to Glasgow city centre.

Tomorrow, the company introduces more than 20 changes to its services including some being scrapped, changed and replaced.

The express X85 and X87 from Kirkintilloch to Glasgow will have increased evening and Sunday frequency but the number 15 service from Summerston to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital will be withdrawn and replaced by a revised number 8 bus route.

It will be extended from Partick to the hospital and rerouted to serve the Summerston area.

Other changes involve revisions to services 10 and 57 to Darnley and Auchinairn. First say to improve the reliability of the services it is necessary to simplify their operation and take account of the reduction in passenger demand.

The new service 87 is being introduced to replace service 10 between the city centre and Auchinairn Road and service 57 to Westerhill when Westerhill Road reopens.

It will operate between Buchanan bus station and Westerhill replacing the northern section of the service 10 which will continue between Silverburn and the city centre.

First say the improvements to the East Dunbartonshire services are the result of an increasing population with more than one million passenger journeys a year.

First Glasgow managing director Andrew Jarvis said: "Our investment in these services demonstrate our ongoing commitment to East Dunbartonshire.

"The increased evening frequency, with an extension of an express service to more destinations in the evening and the new livery are just some of the ways we are improving the customer journey."

Councillor Jim Gibbons of East Dunbartonshire council said the First investment was good news for local residents, workers, businesses and visitors.

He added: "It can be a challenge for bus operators and transport agencies to balance the needs of local communities with commercial pressures so this boost is especially welcome."
