A HAVE-a-go pensioner bravely foiled a housebreaker when she ripped a finger from his glove as he fled her house that led police straight to him.

Mary Proctor, 76, startled Marius Covaci in her bedroom after he had rummaged through her things.

The pensioner let out a scream and so did Covaci and ran out of the room empty handed.

But, as he made his way towards the door - the OAP grabbed hold of him with such force that a finger of his glove was torn off.

Brave Mrs Proctor even broke her arm in the struggle with the would-be thief.

When the police arrived they took the glove and DNA from it led directly to Covaci - who was already on bail for stealing £23,000 of goods from another house.

He pleaded guilty on Friday at Glasgow Sheriff Court to breaking in to the Victorian style home in Vennard Gardens, Shawlands, Glasgow with intent to steal, on April 19.

He also admitted breaking into the house of Iain Barnes and Caroline Stevenson a month earlier in Pollokshaws and stealing thousands of pounds worth of items.

The court heard around 1.20pm as Mrs Proctor made her way to the bathroom in her house she noticed her bedroom door was closed, which was not as she left it.

Distressed, Mrs Proctor went into the street and told a nearby man parking his car what had happened and the police were contacted.

She was taken to hospital which revealed she had a broken right arm suffered in the struggle with Covaci.

Sheriff Martin Jones QC deferred sentence on Covaci, represented by Bill McCluskey until next month and remanded him in custody.
