PROPOSALS have been put forward which could see passengers get from Glasgow city centre to the airport via a water taxi service.

Passengers would be taken up the Clyde to the airport in 25 minutes.

John Hillis, who runs power boat trips on the Clyde in Glasgow, believes that his plan would offer visitors 'a stunning introduction to the city.'

Speaking to The Scotsman, he explained that the service would go between the White Cart Water and the city.

Boats would travel at leisurely pace, on a vessel travelling at around 30 miles per hour.

Despite not offering the quickest mode of travel, it would offer stunning views of the city and a congestion free journey.

Mr Hillis said: "There are already plans for a tram-train link, and with the existing M8, the river is an obvious third option.

"The views and the experience will make it the best way to arrive in Glasgow, passing landmarks such as the Glasgow Science Centre, the Armadillo and Finnieston Crane.

“It is the classic scene shown on those postcards of the city – with audio commentary along the way.”

Services would leave every half an hour with two 10-seat vessels running the journey.

Golf buggies would then take passengers along the 500m stretch to the airport with their luggage.

These buggies however would eventually be replaced by an electric moving walkway.
