A WOMAN is in a serious condition after a man randomly attacked her with a weapon.

Officers are appealing for witnesses after the 39-year-old woman was seriously assaulted in Possilpark.

The incident took place on Saturday, August 19 at 2.30pm in Closeburn Street.

The victim was walking along the street when she was approached from behind and struck on the shoulder and the back of the head with a weapon.

She was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where she currently being treated for a wound to her shoulder.

Hospital staff describe her condition as serious.

The only description of the man responsible is that he was wearing a dark grey coloured tracksuit.

Detective Constable Mark Milroy of Maryhill Police Office is appealing for any witnesses to the incident, or anyone with information that may assist the police investigation.
