The approach to Glasgow’s Central Station was turned into a crime scene last night after a young man was stabbed inside a newsagent.

Police cordoned off the pavement outside Newsbox in Gordon Street just as weekend revelers were making their way to the station next door.

They were forced to walk on the road as officers took witness statements from those involved.

Last night, police said a 41-year-old man has been arrested and will face a charge of attempted murder.

A member of staff inside Newsbox said on Saturday night confirmed that a man had been stabbed, and added: "We are giving statements to the police right now."

The city centre was busy with people who had earlier attended the Pride Glasgow 2017 event at Glasgow Green, but it’s not believed any were involved in the violence.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "A 41-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged attempted murder of a 24-year-old man in Gordon Street at around 9.50pm on Saturday.

“The injured man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where the staff describe his condition as serious, but stable.”

It’s expected the suspect will appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday.
