A COUPLE are "lucky to be alive" after being involved in a hit-and-run on the M80.

Nicole Mcewan from Glasgow is appealing to the public to track down a lorry driver who she claims smashed into her and her partner's car and "just drove away".

The incident took place on Thursday, August 17 at around 5pm on the motorway going from Cumbernauld to Glasgow.

Nicole posted on Facebook: "Writing this as myself and Alex are very lucky to be alive.

"Coming on the slip road which then turns into a lane, a lorry decided he wanted in the lane and swiped the back on my car.

"We spun, hit the barrier god knows how many times and finally stop in the middle of the motorway. The lorry driver just drove away.

"My amazing boyfriend took the brunt of it, jumping over to protect me and covered my head from the glass that was everywhere."

Although shaken by the incident, both managed to come away from the crash without serious injuries.

According to Nicole, another lorry driver stopped until her car way moved onto the slip road, and stayed with the pair until the emergency services arrived.

She added: "Very shaky and sore but very thankful we are both still here.

"If anyone was on the motorway at the time please contact the police to help find the lorry driver who just hit us and drove off all to get into a lane."

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
