A teenage trainee accountant from Glasgow has been hit with a three-year football ban and fine today for his part in the Celtic and Sunderland fans’ brawl ahead of the Dafabet Cup clash in July.

The Evening Times previously reported that Hoops fan Kasey MacKinnon, 18, of Bondyke Street, had been charged with public order and criminal damage offences.

Damage was caused to the premises and MacKinnon was taken to hospital with a serious head injury.

Both Celtic and Sunderland fans clashed in the city’s street as cops struggled to control both sides on July 29.

Ahead of the friendly at the Stadium of Light, videos posted on Twitter and YouTube showed both sides embroiled in a fierce physical brawl.

The Echo reports that YouTube footage was examined by the court.

A total of 21 arrests were made, the majority of which were for being drunk and disorderly, breach of the peace, and the use of illegal pyrotechnics.

The former leader of far-right street protest group the English Defence League (EDL), Tommy Robinson, got caught up in the unrest outside the off-license where he was taking part in a book signing.

Earlier that day, he had provoked Celtic fans in a video clip.

Dressed in a Rangers top and making his way to Sunderland, Robinson repeatedly ruffled Hoops fans’ feathers and labelled the Green Brigade “muppets.”

He also sent Celtic fans the message: “We are the people - God Save the Queen.”
