ALEX Salmond is calling for an independent Scotland to go it alone on currency.
During the 2014 referendum, the then first minister proposed sharing sterling, which was rejected by the UK Government.
However, Salmond now believes the country would benefit from a Scottish pound as a result of Brexit.
During his Edinburgh Fringe show, the SNP man backed chef Andrew Fairlie’s call for Scots to have its own currency.
He said: “We’re in different times, this is not 2014… and you have to anticipate two, three, four years’ time.
“You have a different policy for different times.”
The Growth Commission is deliberating the question of currency in an independent Scotland an economic blueprint for an independent Scotland.
Tasks include considering whether or not the country should keep sterling, create a new currency or use the euro.
