Technology giant Apple is expected to announce its next iPhone at a live event on September 12.

The event will be the first to take place in the newly-built Steve Jobs Theatre, named in honour of the firm's late co-founder and part of the new multibillion-dollar Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California.

According to reports, Apple will use the event to unveil up to three new iPhone handsets - an iPhone 7s and 7s Plus, as well as a special edition iPhone 8 to mark the device's 10th anniversary.

The special edition iPhone 8 - which could also be named iPhone X, according to reports - has been rumoured to feature an edge-to-edge screen similar to that on the Samsung Galaxy S8, which removes the Home button.

A third generation of the Apple Watch and a 4K-supporting Apple TV are also rumoured to be among the upcoming announcements.

The show will be the first time Apple hosts an event on the new Cupertino campus, which began welcoming employees in April.
