A TEAM of Glasgow engineers have challenged city firms to a race.

Staff from city centre firm Mott Macdonald were the winners of last year's Great Scottish Run business challenge.

Competing businesses can enter as many male, female or mixed teams as they like, with a minimum of four and maximum of eight members in each team.

With the half marathon now full, teams can still compete in the 10k, and the fastest four times from each team are accumulated to determine the winners.

Teams will be split into business size categories of small, medium and large, with the fastest overall team in each awarded an engraved trophy.

Steven Prentice, Fiona Greig and Dimitrios Sotiriou of Mott Macdonald met for a training session at Glasgow Green, where they will cross the finish line on Sunday October 1.

Steven said: “This will be the third year we have taken part in the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run Business Challenge.

"We started with just fourteen runners in 2015 and this year we’re expecting close to 40, split across five teams.

“We have a running group with members from all levels of the company which meets twice a week, and signing up for the Business Challenge is a great way to encourage new members to get involved. "Running together helps us to fit in exercise around work whilst socialising with colleagues, and it’s fantastic for the teams to come together on the day of the run to enjoy the excitement and atmosphere.”

Nearly 40 staff from the firm will compete in the half marathon and 10k events in an attempt to secure victory at Scotland’s largest mass participation sporting event for the second year running.

Alex Jackson, from organisers the Great Run Company, said: “Businesses of all sizes are encouraged to sign up for the challenge, a great way to promote a healthy workforce, create some sporting team spirit or raise money for charity.”

Scotland’s biggest weekend of running will see participants follow both 10k and half marathon routes, taking in some of Glasgow’s famous landmarks.

Runners will set off at George Square before reaching the tree lined finish straight in the shadow of Nelson’s Monument at Glasgow Green.
