CELTIC midfielder Tom Rogic has been nominated for the PFA Australia Footballer of the Year award along with former Ross County and St Mirren stars Jackson Irvine and Aaron Mooy.

The Hoops midfielder is hoping to win the gong for the first time after being selected on a five-man shortlist.

Despite spending much of the winter period out with injury, Rogic played a key role in Celtic's undefeated Treble-winning season last term, scoring 12 goals in 37 appearances.

Two of those strikes came in the League Cup and Scottish Cup finals, the latter a dramatic last-minute winner against Aberdeen at Hampden Park.

Rogic is joined on the list by Hoops youth product and former Ross County midfielder Irvine, who moved to Burton Albion last summer before completing a switch to Hull City in August.

Also on the shortlist is Mooy, who spent two years in Paisley between 2010 and 2012 before returning to his home country. Since then, the 26-year-old has gone from strength to strength and helped Huddersfield Town earn their maiden promotion to the Premier League last term.

Genk goalkeeper Danny Vukovic, who moved to Belgium from Sydney FC this summer, and Sydney midfielder Nilos Ninkovic complete the list.

“As a player, being recognised by your peers is the greatest honour you can receive," said PFA President Alex Wilkinson.

"All these players should be very proud of what they achieved during the 2016/17 season.

“Some of the very best footballers our country has ever produced have won these awards in the past and I’ve got no doubt that the current generation will leave their mark on Australian football.”
