A LONE runner has told of her terror after she was chased and sexually assaulted by a teenage boy while out for an evening jog.

The 29-year-old woman was targeted while she ran along the cycle path near the Riverside Museum towards the city centre which forms part of the upcoming Great Scottish Run route.

The youth, who was cycling, followed her and got off his bike and exposed himself to her. She ran as fast as she could to get away from him.

However, he then got back on his bike and followed her before sexually assaulting her.

She screamed and the youth, who is believed to be aged 12-14, fled as another runner rushed to her aid.

The incident happened at around 7.15pm on Tuesday, September 12, near to Congress Road in Finnieston and police inquiries are continuing.

The runner, who is from the Hillhead area, said: “I had run down to the Riverside Museum, and was coming along the bike paths towards the city centre.

“ I got to the new distillery that is being built and i was aware of someone beside me and it was a young teenage boy on a bike who had cycled up next to me and was trying to feel my bum as he passed.

“He then proceeded to weave in and out in front of me and looking back staring at me.

“He then cycled quickly up a few feet away and jumped off his bike and put his hands down his trousers pulling them down a little to try and expose himself to me.

“I just kept running and sprinted as fast as I could away down to the Clyde towards the Crown Plaza but he got back on his bike and cycled up behind me again.

The woman says the youth then touched her sexually and fled after she screamed for help.

She said:“Another runner was coming towards me and he stopped to make sure I was ok.

“I hate that we can’t just go out running by ourselves if we want to. I run that route all the time and never had much bother before.

“I’ve been back out running, I had a little panic on Wednesday but I was fine yesterday when I was out. I’ve had a lot of support and love from all my running friends.”

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “At about 7.30 on Tuesday night a 29-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by a young male cyclist described as between 12-14 years of age, while she was running along the Clyde towards Congress Road in Finnieston.

“She was not injured but distressed by the incident.

“Inquiries are continuing.”
