A THIEF who was caught spending stolen cash at a Glasgow shopping centre has appeared in court.

Nicole Hunter, was seen spending nearly £10,000 of money stolen from the bank account from an unsuspecting victim in Braehead shopping centre on February 18, 2015.

The victim had been at home when she was made aware by her husband that a transaction had been from her account, to another account owned by someone named N Hunter.

The couple flagged the activity up their bank.

An investigation by the Royal Bank of Scotland located the home address of Hunter, 26, but officers who attended her house were unable to find her.

Following this, a number of foreign currency transactions had been carried out by Hunter, of Peninver Drive in Govan, at Braehead shopping centre.

Staff at Marks and Spencers, where she was carrying out the transactions, thought they appeared to be suspicious.

Hunter was said to be looking visibly scared and nervous when carrying them out.

The workers contacted police and officers eventually caught up with Hunter.

She appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to committing the theft.

Her solicitor told the court that the transactions were carried out by Hunter’s ex-partner and she had had suspicions about where the money had come from.

It was added that she accepts full responsibility for the incident.

Sheriff Mary McCrory ordered Hunter to undergo 180 hours of unpaid work in a period of six months.
