TRIBUTES have been paid to former city teacher Anwar Din who has died.
They were led by Glasgow Central Mosque where he was well known.
The mosque’s Facebook page said: “It is with a heavy heart we confirm Anwar Din, a retired teacher from Shawlands Academy and an active member of our community, has returned to the mercy of Allah.
“Anwar Din just returned from Hajj and touched many of us across the community especially the students he taught across Glasgow.
“May Allah grant him a high place in Jannah and the family during this extremely difficult time.”
One of his former pupils also paid tribute to the popular teacher.
Michelle Gibson said online: “I’m so sorry to Mr Din’s family. I was lucky enough to be taught by him in Shawlands Academy. He was a great teacher and a good man.”
Shawlands Academy posted: “Saddened to hear of the passing of our friend and former colleague Anwar Din Our thoughts are with Mr Din’s family at this time.”
Glasgow councillor Soryia Siddique also paid tribute to the popular former teacher.
She Tweeted: “Very sad news, met Anwar Din a few times. Always positive about making a difference.”
Mr Din worked as principal teacher of guidance at Shawlands Academy where he was widely known and respected.
