A DRINK driver was tagged after a sheriff told him he had "let everyone down".

Lee McHarg was spotted by residents in Tassie Street, Shawlands, parking and getting out of the driver's side of his car while drunk.

Police were called to the scene, on April 16 2017 at 5pm, and could smell alcohol coming from the 32-year-old, who refused to give them a breath sample.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard McHarg, who is now living in Nottingham, was then detained and taken to London Road police office.

A breath test taken there showed McHarg was four-and-a-half times over the legal limit.

He had 97 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath when the legal limit is 22 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath.

McHarg's defence lawyer said he had been "stressed and anxious" on the day in question as his gran had been diagnosed with lung cancer, although she is now on the med.

The lawyer added: "He has lost his job as a transport manager.

"He has a daughter now who is six months old and she is now the biggest driving factor for him as he is the sole breadwinner for the family while his partner is on maternity leave."

Sheriff Lindsay Wood said: "Do not think I've not got the measure of you.

"I have seen your past record. You have let everyone down.

"The last thing your gran needs to know is that you have decided to drink and drive."

McHarg was disqualified from driving for four years.

He was tagged for four months and ordered to stay at home from 9.30pm until 6am.

He was also placed on a Community Payback Order for 12 months and ordered to undertake alcohol counselling.
