Scot Gemmill has praised Motherwell midfielder Allan Campbell after calling him up to the Scotland under-21 squad for the first time.
Campbell has caught the eye of late, and was outstanding as Motherwell swept Aberdeen aside last Thursday to reach the Betfred Cup semi-finals.
“He’s been doing great,” Said Gemmill. “He is playing for a team who are in good form, which really helps young players.
“He is obviously contributing to that good form. They have put in some really strong performances and he’s been a big part of that.”
Gemmill meanwhile revealed he wasn’t concerned by Hamilton midfielder Greg Docherty’s brief flirtation with the Republic of Ireland as he recalled him to the Scotland fold.
He said: “I personally haven’t spoken to Greg, and maybe I am being naive, but there was never any doubt in my mind that he would play for us.
“ He knows how highly I regard him. I don’t know how serious the interest was from Ireland, but I wasn’t concerned at all.”
