Former Rangers bad boy Joey Barton has revealed he is to star in music superstar Morrissey’s new video.

Posting an image with the ex-Smiths frontman on Instagram, Ibrox flop Barton told his 135,000 followers this week: “In conversation with... M.”

The post came straight after the footballer told talkSPORT in an interview: “I’ve been asked to be in a music video this afternoon, for Morrissey.”

The picture looks like it’s been taken inside a traditional social club and shows both men sitting side -by-side while deep in conversation.

Although the song for which the video will be made for has not been revealed, online speculation has suggested it could be for Morrissey’s big comeback single ‘Spent The Day In Bed’.

Barton, 36, joined Ibrox last summer but his contract was quickly ripped up following a training ground bust-up with teammates and manager Mark Warburton.

He arrived with the stated ambition of being the best player in Scotland, but managed just eight appearances, mostly underwhelming, and was suspended after the training ground row that followed a 5-1 defeat by Old Firm rivals Celtic.

He then went back to former club Burnley in the Premier League, before being released.

In April, the Football Association handed Barton an 18-month ban for breaking betting rules and fined the former England midfielder £30,000 after he admitted placing bets on 1,260 football matches.

He was later released by club Burnley, who said his departure was brought about by “obvious reasons” given he will miss the whole of the upcoming season.
