The final part of Scotland's super college has been formally opened by the Countess of Wessex.

A commemorative plaque was unveiled by Sophie, wife of Prince Edward, on Thursday to mark the launch of City of Glasgow College's City Campus.

The facility is the larger of the twin-site super campus estate, designed for 40,000 students, which is the biggest in Scotland.

Principal Paul Little said: "We are absolutely delighted and hugely honoured that HRH Countess of Wessex has officially opened our stunning new super college.

"City of Glasgow College is truly trailblazing on the world stage, a renaissance in technical and professional education. This is yet another significant step in our journey of excellence and underpins our student-first approach.

"We are extremely proud of our multi award winning campuses and particularly pleased that Her Royal Highness had the opportunity to see for herself the stunning new facilities, expert teaching staff and talented students who make our super college so special."

Sophie was taken on a tour of facilities by the principal, before unveiling the plaque.

The plaque was designed and produced by students and staff and made using sandstone, granite and oak.

It features the college crest and motto "Let Learning Flourish".
