A MAN caught with 20 cannabis saplings in his kitchen cupboard has dodged jail.

Michael Porter's home on Hartlaw Crescent, Hillington, was raided by cops on May 6 last year.

The 33-year-old was found to have the Class B drug in his kitchen and a variety of cannabis growing instruments in his bedroom.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard the plants are worth between £200 and £600 each.

Porter, who doesn't work and is on benefits, is now at risk of losing his housing association flat, his defence brief said.

Sheriff Daniel Kelly sentenced Porter to a Community Payback Order and supervision by social work.

He was also tagged for four months, keeping him at home from 7am to 7pm, and given 180 hours of unpaid work to be completed within nine months.

Sheriff Kelly said: "If you don't perform all of these things you will come back before me and I will know you want to go to custody."
