A WOMAN injured her foot after a thug sneaked up behind her and "violently" grabbed her bag, causing her to fall to the ground.

Cops are now investigating the mugging which happened on Wednesday at around 9.20pm whilst the woman was walking in Ayr.

They say the 43-year-old woman was walking in George Street towards Content Street when she was approached from behind by a man.

The man then violently grabbed her bag causing her to fall to the ground and injure her foot.

The man who ran off with the handbag is described as white, late 20s to early 30s and he is 5ft 6 inches.

He has a slim build with a fit physique and brown hair. He was wearing dark blue jeans and a dark coloured tracksuit/shell suit jacket.

Detective Sergeant Jane Hogg at Ayr CID said: “This was a very traumatic experience for this woman who had to be treated in hospital for a foot injury after she was knocked to the ground.

“It is vital that we catch the person responsible before he strikes again and as such I appeal to anyone who either witnessed the incident or who was in the vicinity of George Street, Ayr at around 9.30pm on Wednesday, September 28 and may have seen him hanging around the area either prior to the robbery taken place or running off afterwards to contact police immediately.”
