Students at a school in Rutherglen have been left shaken after an intruder entered the building while they were in class.

A 14-year-old boy entered the grounds of Trinity High School on Thursday September 28 without permission.

Staff became aware of the teenager and immediately contacted police.

Officers arrested the trespasser for the alleged assault of 29-year-old man and an alleged breach of the peace.

The parent of one first year pupil said her child came home in tears after the incident and blasted the school for not contacting parents to let them know what happened.

She said: “I feel that this sort of thing should never be allowed to happen in this day and age.

"It’s something other parents need to be aware of in order to make their children vigilant and be aware of what they should do in this situation.

“As of now the school has made no contact with parents to make them aware that this has happened.”

The intruder was said to be a student from another school looking for a Trinity High School pupil.

Head of Education at South Lanarkshire Council, Des Dickson, said: “We can confirm that an intruder entered the school grounds on Thursday, 28 September.

“Police responded quickly to the incident. Trinity High School is working with the Police and other agencies to take this matter forward.”

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland, added: “A 14-year-old boy is subject to a report to the Scottish children's reporter administration in connection with an alleged assault and alleged breach of the peace following an incident at a secondary school in Rutherglen.”
