TEMPORARY bus stops are to be introduced while Partick bus station is closed for a major redevelopment.

The bus station is due to shut on Monday October 16 and is expected to reopen at the end of April.

Work will include an increase in the number of bus stances which are needed to meet the growing number of people using the transport hub.

Local bus operator First Glasgow will provide a temporary stop on Dumbarton Road under the railway bridge for customers travelling to Clydebank, Drumchapel and Knightswood on services 2, N2, 3 and 16.

A temporary stop on Dumbarton Road west of Hayburn Street will be set up for passengers travelling towards Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Braehad and Renfrew on services 8, 16 and 77.

Services M4, 8 and 90 towards Kelvindale and Maryhill will pick up passengers on Dumbarton Road near Poundland at the railway bridge.

SPT which manages the bus stations will provide signs to the temporary stops and First Glasgow staff will be available to help passengers when the changes come into effect.

First Glasgow managing director Andrew Jarvis said: "Partick bus station is part of a busy transport interchange and we are working with SPT and other partners to ensure our customers can continue to access their bus services with minimal disruption during these improvements."

As well as new bus stances, the bus station will have improved waiting areas for passengers, CCTV, seating and real time passenger information.

The new design will allow a better flow of traffic through the transport interchange, segregated bus operations away from other vehicles and will result in pedestrians being separated from the bus manoeuvering area.
