A WOMAN who accepted almost £10,000 worth of benefits she was not entitled to has been told to do unpaid work in the community.

Jenean Allardyce, 50, appeared in the dock at Glasgow Sheriff Court after admitting the offence.

She accepted that between March 12, 2012 and August 18, 2015, she claimed employment and support allowance to the value of £7,000 she was not entitled to. Allardyce did not inform the Department of Work and Pensions that her husband was in employment and in receipt of earnings.

The Rutherglen woman, of Glenside Drive, also claimed housing benefit from South Lanarkshire Council worth £2,900 she was not entitled to between March 12, 2012 and June 14, 2015.

She will complete 130 hours of unpaid work and was placed under supervision for one year.
