Plain-clothes cops have nabbed young vandals who were throwing eggs and stones at traffic.

Several reports were made by members of the public about attacks on traffic in Paisley's Love Street.

Police Scotland responded with a crackdown which resulted in a number of primary school age children being referred through Renfrewshire Council's Youth Team.

The force said that the youth team will be carrying out home visits to speak with both parents and the kids involved.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, of the Community Policing team, said: "In addition to identifying those responsible, it is imperative that we educate children and young persons on the dangers of throwing items at moving traffic.

"A number of school visits have been carried out by local officers to ensure that children are aware of the consequences of such actions.

"I would ask parents to speak with their children regarding this type of behaviour which could result in serious injury to those travelling within a vehicle.

"We will be continuing to address the issue over the coming weeks and I would ask any person affected by this type of behaviour to notify police Scotland on telephone number 101 or e-mail RenfrewshireInverclydeLPSTPaisley@Scotland.pnn.police.uk."

She added: "This ensures that the local officers are aware of the frequency and pattern of such incidents."
