A WOMAN attacked two staff members in a fast food restaurant after being accused of not paying for her food.

Roberta Hughes tried to force her way behind the counter of McDonald's after there was confusion over whether she'd paid for her order.

The 33-year-old spat in the faces of the shift manager and a worker during the incident on July 4, 2015.

Mother-of-two Hughes also attempted to headbutt one of the men.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard Hughes, who was drunk, entered the Parkhead Forge branch of the burger chain in the early hours of the morning.

It was around 3.30am when she was waiting to collect her order of wraps that staff asked if she had paid up.

Hughes immediately became aggressive towards the shift manager of the franchise.

She then tried to get behind the counter and tried to headbutt him - but missed and instead spat in his face.

A second employee jumped into help and attempted to put himself between Hughes and her victim.

She spat at this employee, managing to hit his face while ranting abuse at him and the shift manager.

In court, Hughes was described as "in a highly agitated state" throughout her rampage.

Sheriff Gerard Bonnar told Hughes he had closely read her criminal justice social work report and understood she was currently "facing issues".

He said: "I take account of various issues you have faced and continue to face.

"Your behaviour towards employees in a restaurant was just unacceptable.

"You recognise that and express your regret for that.

"I see you are taking steps to address your issues and take that into account.

The sheriff placed Hughes, from Parkhead, on a structured deferred sentence for three months.

He made clear the mum must be on her best behaviour between now and reappearing at court on January 25 or she could face jail.

Sheriff Bonnar added: "You must remember you have two children to think of as well."
