Scots TV presenter David Tanner has opened up about being axed from his Sky Sports job after 18 years on our screens.
The 45-year-old face of Scottish Sky Sports has been replaced by Hayley McQueen.
After leaving the broadcasting company by mutual consent, he revealed that several Scottish football stars got in touch.
He told the Mirror newspaper: "I was away on holiday when the season started. I just switched my phone off and went away and did something with my family.
“And when I switched the phone back on, the first text that came up was from Scott Brown saying, ‘Where are you? Missing your wee face.’
“I left by mutual consent on August 31, which is that old manager’s line, isn’t it?"
“My view on TV presenters, with respect to all of us, is we are just there to say, ‘Hello, welcome, today’s match is...’
“I’m just a journalist who wears make-up. I can look back fondly on 18 enjoyable years."
The broadcaster has since set up an events and hospitality company with former Hearts Chief Executive Scott Gardiner. He is also lecturing at Napier University.
Tanner started out in Journalism at the age of 16. He went on to work for Radio Clyde and STV before joining Sky Sports in 1999.
