An appeal has been launched after two rabbits were found abandoned by the side of a road in Hamilton.

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information on their owners after the pets were found with some hay and a water bottle on Wednesday October 11.

The charity were alerted to the pair who were discovered in the woodland area on Hunston Avenue.

Animal Rescue Officer Stephanie Bain said, “The two rabbits, who have been named Harley and Quinn by staff at our centre in Lanarkshire, were thankfully found before they came to any harm.

“This is not only a cruel incident but it is also a crime. These animals could have easily ran onto the road and been killed by a car, or even attacked by another animal.

“We’re appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.”

Stephanie added, “Harley and Quinn will stay in our care until we find them the loving home they deserve.

“Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006. Anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.”

Anyone with information is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
