Boozed-up students went on the rampage last night (Sunday) to enjoy the infamous Carnage pub crawl, also dubbed "the UK's number one student night."

In scenes compared to a warzone, they were seen passionately smooching, dancing on tables and posing in skimpy outfits, wasting no time in adapting to university life.

Young academics could also be seen sprawled on the floor, slumped on the street and baring their bottoms on the boozy bar tour in Liverpool's city centre.

Carnage sees hundreds of students going on a huge pub crawl around their university town.

On its website, Carnage UK boasts that it is "more than an event or just another night out. [It] is student tradition."

The event has developed a reputation for wild drinking, cheap shots, and everyone pretty much getting so messy that city centres resemble a warzone of wasted students.

Revellers were pictured wearing the iconic Carnage UK event T-shirt for the event, which gives them access to bars and discounted drinks.

As these pictures show, the heady mix took its toll on some boys and girls as several ended up in the gutter.

Despite most of the Carnage crawls going ahead without a hitch, they have previously been criticised for promoting excessive drinking that has in the past led to some shocking incidents.

Drinks are on offer for as little as £1, and a significant police presence is usually required to oversee it.

In 2009, a tanked-up fresher sparked outrage when he was spotted urinating on a war memorial in Sheffield after a night on one of the Carnage benders.
