PART of the M8 Eastbound will be shut to drivers this weekend - near Glasgow Airport.

Scotland TranServ will undertake the resurfacing of the M8 Eastbound between Junction 29 and Junction 28 this weekend.

A contraflow system will be in place from 8pm on Friday 20 to 6am Monday October 23 to complete the work.

Alan Murray, Principal Roads Design Engineer said: “This is an important resurfacing project to address issues with surface defects and structural cracking over a kilometre of the motorway, near Glasgow Airport.

"We have worked with the airport, Police Scotland, Local Authorities and other key stakeholders to schedule the works to cause minimal disruption.

“We will operate a contraflow system to help keep weekend traffic flowing.

"This is an important project that will deliver long-term improvements in the quality of the road surface in this busy stretch of the M8, to the benefit of commuters, business traffic and tourists alike.”

Delays of around 40 minutes are expected with travellers and motorists advised to set off early or use public transport.

Scotland TranServ is delivering a programme of work to improve South West Scotland’s trunk road infrastructure as part of Transport Scotland’s trunk road maintenance programme.

Andy Fraser, Scotland TranServ’s Operating Company Representative, added: “Our aim, as always, is to deliver these long-term benefits to commuters, businesses and tourists visiting our area, with maximum efficiency and minimal disruption throughout.

"It is a constant challenge, to balance the need to maintain Scotland’s busiest road while reducing the impact of our works on motorists.”
