A TROUBLED teen attacked a family friend who was caring for him before running through the streets with a kitchen knife.

But Sheriff Allan Findlay said the 17-year-old was in need of support and placed him on a supervision order.

The young man was staying with a family friend after relations with his mum and dad turned difficult.

On September 12 this year, however, his "mood changed" and the teen became verbally aggressive towards his host.

He then grabbed a kitchen knife and ran through the streets with it, with cops in pursuit.

He was seen by officers to pull the knife out of his belt and throw it away shortly before they caught up with him and he was arrested.

The teenager also appeared in Glasgow Sheriff Court for trying to kick in his parents' front door on September 17 when they wouldn't let him in the house when he tried to collect some of his belongings.

The teenager, who appeared in court from custody, had been granted bail on July 31, 2017 at Glasgow Sheriff Court, keeping him at home between 7pm and 7am but on September 10 cops called at his house at 9.39pm and 12.30am and he was not at home.

The court heard the young man, from Royston, had lived with the friend "without any major difficulty" from April this year but an argument began on September 12.

His brief said: "His explanation to the police about the knife was that he was fearful of other people in the local area who bear him ill will.

"There was no suggestion he brandished the knife.

"The one good thing to come from this situation is that there has now been some family reconciliation."

The young man's mother and brother were both in court to offer him support.

Sheriff Findlay said: "If I put some support in place for you are you prepared to cooperate?

"You don't run around Glasgow with knives, it's as simple as that. That's how people get hurt."

The teenager was placed on a Community Payback Order for 18 months with supervision.

He was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work within six months and will be called back to court in two months for a review.
