FURTHER equal pay protests are to be held on Monday as Glasgow City Council workers demand cash they are owed..

Union Unison has called for its members to picket at Glasgow City Chambers to highlight more than 10,000 staff at Glasgow City Council have equal pay claim outstanding, and that number is growing.

As told in the Evening Times, the Court of Session ruled that council workers had not been paid equal money and millions is now owed in back pay.

Unison members, on what will be the third protest held since September, plan a moustache-themed event.

Most of those who have equal pay claims, and who are claiming cash back through both unions and Action 4 Equality Scotland, work in mainly female dominated occupations like homecare, schools, libraries, cleaning, catering and administration.

Unison calls for the claims to be paid and that Glasgow City Council ensures any future or amended job evaluation scheme is “equality proofed” to ensure equal pay for equal work moving forward.

A spokesman said: “ Unison is very clear that the council should not delay pay justice for our members, so far the council have stated the intention is to settle but the latest action has been to seek leave to appeal which means one thing, delays.

"Unison members demand that the council pay up and deliver equal pay for equal work in our city. The council leaders and senior officers should be putting more effort in."
