A former soldier who met Terry Butcher’s tragic son Chris in rehab says the Army don’t do enough to help traumatised veterans.

Chris signed up for a 12-week stay with charity Tom Harrison House, who run recovery programmes for those suffering with post-traumtic stress disorder.

Unfortunately, the 35-year-old pulled out of the programme less than halfway through and his dad, Rangers and England legend Terry drove him home.

Chris, who had fought in Afghanistan battled post-traumatic stress disorder and was found dead at his dad’s house on Monday.

Fellow veteran Joe Rimmer, 37, told the Daily Record: “Chris was a friendly giant but he had more issues than we could help him with.

“He mentioned that his tour of Afghanistan was really hard and when he came out it was difficult to deal with life. I completely understood because it was exactly the same for me.

“Chris was a really nice guy, one of the lads and we respected him for who he was, not who his dad was.

Chris joined the Royal Artillery in 2006 and rose to the rank of captain.

On his Facebook page, married Chris described himself as “just a moody bitter vet”.
